Telkomsel 5G Lake Toba

Telkomsel cooperates with Ericsson and Qualcomm to test Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services in the Lake Toba Region, North Sumatra. The trial activity relies on 5G extended-range technology with a bandwidth of 800 MHz at a millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency of 26 GHz. Based on the test results, Telkomsel noted that the 5G mmWave technology could produce maximum download speeds with a peak throughput of up to 1 Gbps. This figure is a good result because the devices supporting the 5G mmWave technology are installed quite far from the test devices used to transmit 5G data, with a distance of about 7.9 km. There is already an image that 5G mmWave technology can produce high-quality download speeds that have the potential to promote equity, improvement, and acceleration of digital transformation nationally.

The results of this trial prove that 5G mmWave technology at the 26 GHz frequency can be a solution to improve various digital services, especially in the Lake Toba Region. The Lake Toba area is one of the Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP) points designated by Kominfo and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) as DPSP points that have 5G services.
